This article is an attempt to explore the phenomenon of overseas volunteering that has recently emerged in South Korean universities.
My inquiry is two-fold: First, what are the conditions under which such a project has come into existence, both as a common field of anti-poverty intervention and as an attractive opportunity in which students are encouraged to participate actively.
My exploration is based on textual analysis of overseas volunteering activities, international development, and corporate social responsibility in South Korea and beyond. Second, how do university students experience, interpret and respond to the project that interpellates them as the main subjects of volunteering abroad?
